Christian Action Network Nottingham (CAN)

We are a network that promotes collaboration, relationship and unity among Christian organisations who are working to tackle poverty in Nottingham.

AIMS

  • To facilitate greater depth of unity and partnership through members offering their expertise, service, resources and encouragement to see individuals and communities flourish.
  • To be a conduit for churches and Christians who want to bless the city- so they can direct their energy, resources and prayer where it is most needed.
  • To respond strategically and thoughtfully to identified needs in cooperation with other services across the city, in a way that builds from ‘the ground up’ and brings long term community transformation.
  • To support and encourage local community leadership.

We usually meet 4 times a year in a variety of venues although at the moment are meeting on online. Our membership is always growing and we are in close relationship with Nottingham City Prayer, Nottingham Citizens and other like-minded organisations and networks. Please contact Hannah Buck for more information.

One member's experience ...

"I have been part of CAN for 5 years now. Before joining I had no idea how much work was going on in the city to tackle areas of social injustice. CAN has provided crucial support to me during my employment with Street Pastors. I have learnt a huge amount from fellow CAN members that has transformed my work and some of these lessons I will carry with me forever. It has been such a joy to build relationships with fellow CAN members which has meant I have known who to ask for help when I have needed it. It has also led to some excellent partnership working, for example in sharing training sessions with other charities which is a much more efficient use of time and resources. Sometimes the brokenness of the world can feel overwhelming and depressing, but when I look at the work that all of CAN are involved in I am heartened that there is hope, that justice can be sought and lives can be transformed. I have learnt that we are definitely better working together, together there is such strength, encouragement and resources can be shared. Together we can pray, encourage each other and press on in sharing God's love in Nottingham. I am so grateful to all of the CAN members and particularly to Hannah Buck for encouraging us all and making it happen!"

You'll see below some of our member organisations. As well as meeting as a whole, we operate in the following sub groups: 'Homelessness', 'Children & Families', 'Finance & Debt', Social enterprises and employability', 'Refugees, Asylum seekers & Migrants', 'Food & Community' (including mental health), 'Modern Slavery', and 'Prisons & supporting ex-offenders'. These are continuing to evolve and each one looks different depending on the need. We are excited about these!
